Craigieburn Town Centre road troubles identified

Following a bi-annual local traffic management study (LATM), Hume council will consider a raft of recommendations to increase road safety in the municipality.

Thirty-six proposed treatments are recommended in the study, with a particular focus on Craigieburn Road and Mickleham Road.

The total estimated cost to install the traffic management devices and safety measures is $2,677,000.

Craigieburn Road has had 13 crashes recorded in the last five years, with failure to give way an identified trend.

As a result, the intersection of Craigieburn Road and Waterview Boulevard is being upgraded as part of the Craigieburn Road Upgrade project.

Once the works are complete council officers will continue to monitor the intersection.

Mickleham Road has had seven crashes in the same period, with failure to give away also being the main issue.

Other recommendations include installation of centre lines, bike lanes as well as give way and directional arrow markings throughout the area.

Cr Carly Moore commended the work of officers who created the detailed report.

“I want to acknowledge our traffic team who have been very busy over the past 12 months undertaking this study, consulting with our community and coming back with this plan,” she said.

“These (recommendations) are all aimed at keeping our community safe, so thank you to everybody who was involved.”
