Mickleham Road Upgrade Flicking The Switch On Solar and Batteries

Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) is taking a sustainable leap forward with the introduction of an integrated battery and solar generator system at the Mickleham Road upgrade – stage 1 construction compound.

The initiative marks a significant milestone in the transition towards a more sustainable future.

MRPV program director Adrian Furner expressed pride in this eco-friendly move.

“We are proud to have flicked on the switch of a battery and solar generator system, as part of the industry’s transition to clean energy systems at construction compounds,” he said. “We are continuing to modernise our construction compounds, strengthen our energy security, and deliver real action on climate change.”

The project team partnered with SkyEnergy, who provided the Skybox technology for this innovative energy storage system.

MRPV construction partner, BMD project engineer Lachlan McNab highlighted the potential for significant energy savings saying it’s possible in the summer up to 40 per cent of the energy generated may be supplied back into the power grid and in winter they expect to only rely on the grid for a third of the compound’s energy needs.

SkyEnergy solar, battery and off-grid systems consultant Ashwin Shenoy said the significant savings through the life of this system, will count as a success story that all parties involved can be proud of.

The integrated battery and solar generator system, which boasts 30KW solar panels, is now operational at the project’s compound site just outside Greenvale.
