South Morang’s Northern Football League division 2 season is over.
The Lions faced St Marys in a semi final on Sunday afternoon at Epping Recreation Reserve.
The Burra started the game strong kicking the first three goals of the game, before the Lions began to work their way into it cutting the margin back to just one point at half time.
The second half was where St Marys started to get going, booting five goals in the third term to the Lions two, giving it a 19 point lead at three quarter time.
In the last, the game was a shootout with both sides booting six majors each, with St Marys having done enough to win,18.12 (120)-15.9 (99).
Joshua D’Intinosante was the Lions best, slotting seven majors. Tye Hall and Liam Jolly kicked two a piece, while Bailey Brown, Kain Hall, Beau Moorcroft and Ben Muscat were single goal scorers.
Essendon premiership player Gary Moorcroft was unable to assert his influence on the game in his return from a hamstring injury.
The semi final appearance comes in the club’s first season in division 2 having won the division 3 title last season.
