Hume and Whittlesea councils will share in more than $1 million in federal government funding to tackle road black spots.
The funding will enable the councils to install road safety measures at locations where a number of serious crashes are known to have occurred or are at risk of occurring.
In Hume, $335,000 will go towards the installation of a raised safety platform at the intersection of Silvester Parade and McPherson Boulevard, Roxburgh Park, with upgrades to lighting.
Hume will also receive $186,000 for the installation of safety platforms on the eastern and western approaches to the roundabout at the intersection of Grand Boulevard, Hanson Road and Hamilton Hume Parade, Craigieburn.
In Broadmeadows, $458,000 will be used to construct flat-top road hump at the existing pedestrian-operated sign and on the north leg of the Jacana Avenue roundabout. The speed limit on Freda Street to Jacana Avenues will be reduced 60 km/h to 40 km/h.
In Whittlesea, $54,000 will go towards adjusting the traffic signal phasing from right-hand-turn drop-out phases to full controlled right-turn phases on Harvest Home Road in Wollert.
State Roads and Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne welcomed the federal government funding.
