Students in Victoria’s northern suburbs are one step closer to enjoying new, leading medical teaching facilities at Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadow campus, with designs officially unveiled.

Training and Skills and Higher Education Minister Gayle Tierney welcomed the milestone for Kangan Institute’s new Broadmeadows Health and Community Centre of Excellence this week.

The new centre will support courses in high priority areas including aged care, mental health, disability, pathology, allied health, and early childhood education and care. It will also feature labs for health simulation, outdoor spaces for students and flexible learning spaces at the Pearcedale Parade campus in Broadmeadows.

Developed by Australasian architecture firm Architectus, the centre is expected to open in 2025 and the project will create more than 300 jobs during construction.

Students will have access to hands-on learning opportunities thanks to partnerships with local healthcare providers such as DPV Health and Northern Health, which will also assist in the development of health strategies and outcomes for communities in the northern suburbs.

Kangan Institute chief executive Sally Curtain welcomed the news.

“Through strong collaboration with industry and local partners, the Health and Community Centre of Excellence is designed to be a game changer for aspiring health and community workers in Melbourne’s north,” she said.

“It’s a centre built with community for the community, ensuring locals have the opportunity to access state-of-the-art training facilities as they prepare for in-demand jobs of tomorrow.”

Ms Tierney said the state government was investing in world-class TAFE facilities right across the state to ensure that Victorian students can get the skills they need for the careers they want.

Broadmeadows MP Kathleen Matthews-Ward said this new centre will create a hub of health excellence in Broadmeadows, giving students access to world-class training facilities right at their doorstep.
