World Cup fever hit Bundoora last week with the Jamaican Women’s national soccer team finalising their tournament preparations at Parade College.
In the lead up to its first game, which it drew with France, the Jamaican team visited Parade College.
The ‘Reggae Girlz’ now face Panama on Saturday, July 29 in Perth.
It’s Jamaica’s second World Cup appearance and the team is hoping to advance to the World Cup’s group stage for the first time. It will be a tough ask as the Reggae Girlz must navigate matches against France, Brazil and Panama to progress.
Parade College principal Mark Aiello said it was an honour to have an international team train at the college before the biggest tournament in women’s soccer.
“A few weeks ago we heard that the Jamaican team needed a place to train for a few days to prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup so we jumped at the chance to make it happen,” Mr Aiello said.
“It was important to them to fly a bit under the radar and practice some tactics so we weren’t able to have students watching from the side lines. But we made sure the camera was there to capture the moment and it was incredible to see such elite women’s sport in our backyard.”
