Victoria’s agency dedicated for the prevention of family violence and violence against women has welcomed four new board members.
Prevention of Family Violence Minister Ros Spence announced the appointment of Nesreen Bottriell, Jan Noblett, Professor Steven Roberts and Daphne Yarram, on July 5.
Ms Spence said she welcomes the new board members and thanks the outgoing members for all their contributions.
“I welcome the new members, who each bring a diversity of backgrounds and experiences ensuring strong representation of women, cultural diversity and lived experience to the board,” Ms Spence said.
“I’d also like to thank the outgoing board members for their significant contributions to the agency’s work to prevent violence and change the attitudes and behaviours that lead to family violence and violence against women.”
The state government said the new board members were chosen for their strong expertise in primary prevention, governance, financial and risk management.
This includes their ability to add strength to the implementation of Respect Victoria’s strategic plan 2023-28.
Australian Muslim Women’s Centre for Human Rights general manager Ms Bottriell has significant experience in financial and executive management, governance and compliance within the government and not-for-profit sectors.
Anglicare Victoria director of quality and outcomes Ms Noblett brings a strong focus on operational leadership, policy development and portfolio management in the human services sector.
Monash University Associate Dean Grad Research (Education) and Professor of Education and Social Justice, Professor Roberts has lived experience of family violence.
Professor Roberts is also internationally renowned for his research in critical masculinities studies and the sociology of youth and inequalities.
Yoowinna Wurnalung Aboriginal Healing Service chief executive and proud Noongar woman, Ms Yarram is currently chairperson of Aboriginal Housing Victoria, as well as a member of several governance groups.
The appointments fill vacancies created by the three outgoing Board members of Dr Wei Leng Kwok, Rodney Jackson and Liana Papoutsis.
