Whittlesea to host cat confinement Q&A sessions

Whittlesea will be running a series of question-and-answer sessions that will provide information and support to cat owners ahead of the introduction of new cat regulations later this year.

From August 1 Whittlesea cat owners will be made to desex newly registered cats and contain their cats at all times, meaning owners will be required to contain their cats to within their property at all times or have their cats under effective control when outside the property.

Council’s chair administrator Lydia Wilson said she encouraged pet owners to attend a Q&A session if they had any questions about the new requirements.

“We know that confining your cat to your property can be a big change for many cats and their owners, and we are committed to helping our residents through this transition phase by providing as much information and support as we can,” she said.

“We will have staff from our animal management team on hand at the sessions to talk through the changes and the resources we have available, which includes educational information, videos, and practical tips and advice on preparing your pet and your property.”

The free sessions will be held at the following locations:

Ageing Well Expo, Plenty Ranges Arts and Convention Centre, 35 Ferres Blvd South Morang, Wednesday, June 21, 10am – 3pm

Westfield Plenty Valley, South Morang, Thursday June, 22, 2pm – 5pm

Westfield Plenty Valley, South Morang, Tuesday, June 27, 1pm – 4pm
