Eagles receive a boost

The Craigieburn Eagles have received a boost as they push for finals in the Big V women’s division 1 competition.

The Eagles announced that they had signed Craigieburn-native Demi Albon for the rest of the Big V season. She has played the last two games for the side.

“Demi Albon, who just touched down in Australia after finishing her freshman year studying and playing basketball in America, signed with the Eagles just before the cut off date in late May,” the club said on their website.

“Albon attends Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, where she competes at the division II level for the Ravens. She finished her first year appearing in 21 games and shooting at a solid 37.5 per cent field goal percentage.

“The Craigieburn-native attended Maribyrnong College and won a state championship for the 2017-18 season with Diamond Valley. She was also an academic improvement award recipient (2018-19), an indigenous leader (2020-21), and has made a national junior classic appearance three times.

“Off of the court, Demi is studying journalism at university.”

The Eagles said that Albon would be an excellent addition to their squad a a four player and adds height and strength in the front court for the Eagles.

“She has already hit the ground running at training sessions and has competed in our last two games. We look forward to her continuing to make a positive impact on and off the court for the remainder of the season.”

Heading into the King’s Birthday weekend break, the Eagles were sitting in sixth spot with five wins from their 12 games.

The side had lost their last three games.

The Eagles next week face the Western Port Steelers on Saturday night at home.
