Craigieburn locals are set to be faced with further delays as another road gets shut.

Highlander Road will be closed from May 31 leaving motorists only one way to cross Craigieburn Road.

Locals will be forced to use Aitken Boulevard as the only outlet with a set of working traffic lights. The road is already dealing with roadworks and is reduced to one lane.

The single lane road will be tasked with traffic from schools in the local area and shoppers of the busy Craigieburn Central.

Motorists wanting to access Craigieburn Road will be able to also use Waterview Boulevard, however they will be unable to cross Craigieburn Road from there, with the southside closed due to roadworks.

Locals have not taken well to the news, many taking to Facebook to voice their frustrations.

“Are they serious right now? There are literally no other alternatives, they all have roadworks,” one local said.

“Whoever planned this is a moron,” another said.

“Might as well split Craigieburn in two and call it the Hunger Games,” an angered citizen said.

The closures are expected to last until mid-August.

Major Road Projects Victoria program director Dipal Sorathia says they’re preparing for growth in Melbourne’s growing suburbs.

“We thank the community for their patience while we carried out these essential works to reduce congestion and improve people’s travel times through our suburbs,” he said.
