CWA talent on show

Members from the Country Women’s Association Craigieburn branch will be showcasing their talent at the CWA Creative Arts Exhibition this weekend.

Those with an appreciation for arts, crafts and baking are invited to visit the exhibition on April 29 and 30 at the Lancefield Mechanics Institute.

The annual exhibition will feature entries from 11 CWA branches with skilled arts, crafts, baked goods and preserves submitted for awards.

Treasurer of the CWA Craigieburn Branch Jennifer Oostindie said that this year her branch will be submitting 50 entries from seven members.

“The exhibition is a highlight for the whole group, we work hard the whole year to make these things and get going,” she said.

“We are hopefully expecting a great turnout.”

Ms Oostindie said that all of the CWA branches work quietly to raise money and produce handmade goods for their local area, group area or for a state project.

The Craigieburn group regularly donates crafts including beanies and scarves in winter to those who need them, usually through the Craigieburn Salvation Army.

Among many other community charity initiatives, the group also makes donations of knee rugs, premature baby booties and hats as well as birthday and sympathy cards to the Northern Hospital.

“Our branch is flourishing, in the last 18 months we’ve welcomed five new members,” said Ms Oostindie.

Entry to the exhibition is $5, with children under 16 free, and the presentation for the winners will take place at 1.30pm on Sunday, April 30.
