Broadmeadows manufacturer Integra Systems has been awarded $1 million in federal government funding in support of the manufacturing of Australia’s defence capabilities.

Integra Systems has received $1 million to install panel bending and fibre optic laser cutters for a range of capability programs.

The Defence Global Competitiveness and Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority grant programs provide grants of up to $50,000 to $1 million to assist Australian small and medium enterprises for up to 50 per cent of the cost of a project that builds capabilities aligned for defence industry and overcome barriers to export.

Integra Systems is a 100 per cent Australian-owned manufacturing enterprise that has been operating since 1991.

Calwell MP Maria Vamvakinou said the community has long been at the forefront of Australian manufacturing.

“Investing in manufacturing and sovereign capabilities will help deliver local jobs and drive innovation,” she said.

“This investment reflects confidence in our local workforce and supply chain capabilities which are essential to the health and future of our local industry.”

To date more than 200 Australian businesses have been awarded these grants.

Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy said these grants are a two-way investment for both Australian business and the Defence Industry.

“These grants provide Australian’s the opportunity to deliver cutting edge manufacturing and maintenance capabilities for our Australian Defence Force, and contribute to our national defence requirements,” he said.

“The Defence Global Competitiveness and Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority grant programs are enhancing the ability of Australian businesses to manufacture products that will serve Defence needs both here and abroad.”
