The Broadmeadows Civic Plaza upgrade is now complete and open for use, with more opportunities for locals to meet, relax and play.
Hume council has updated Broadmeadows Civic Plaza with a series of unique design elements that respond to community consultation carried out last year.
The consultation asked key users of the space questions about how the Plaza is currently used, what could be improved, and requested ideas for future design to make the space more inviting.
In response to community feedback, council installed colourful footpath decals, new furniture, planter boxes, shelter and more lighting.
The upgrades are intended to encourage further activity in and around the civic plaza, by making it more appealing for gatherings and social activities.
The project was delivered in partnership with the state government who contributed $450,000 through the Suburban Revitalisation Program.
Mayor Joseph Haweil said the upgraded civic plaza meets the needs of current and future users, becoming an even more vibrant and active town centre for the community.
“Civic plaza is the heart of Broadmeadows, with countless locals walking through it to access the Hume Global Learning Centre, council offices, Broadmeadows Railway Station and Broadmeadows Shopping Centre every day,” he said.
