Construction is under way at Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadows campus for a new Health and Community Centre for Excellence.
Training and Skills and Higher Education Minister Gayle Tierney turned the first sod to mark the start of the building project.
The new centre will deliver high-quality training needed for some of Victoria’s most in-demand jobs, including aged care, mental health, disability, nursing, pathology, allied health and health care education services.
Kangan Institute chief executive Sally Curtain said that the new centre will equip students and teachers with state-of-the-art facilities.
“The Health and Community Centre of Excellence will deliver the health and community training needed to support the growing northern corridor,” she said.
The centre is being built at Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadows campus in Pearcedale Parade, with construction expected to be completed in late 2024, creating 300 jobs.
Kangan Institute has collaborated with local healthcare providers, including DPV Health and Northern Health to support future training needs and offer placements to students studying at the centre.
Northern Health director of partnerships Neela Konara said that this collaboration aims to bring together training and service provision for each organisation.
“Kangan Broadmeadows is one of the key partners Northern Health works with to provide timely access to healthcare services to some of the most disadvantaged community groups in the local area.”
