Marymede Catholic College – one school, two campuses

There is a buzz of excitement in Doreen and surrounding communities as building works for Marymede Catholic College’s Doreen Year 7 to 12 campus are well underway.

The Year 7 foundational cohort will commence in 2024.

One of the foundational students, Jagger Carnovale, had his name drawn to officially ‘turn the sod’ with McEwen MP Rob Mitchell and principal Timothy Newcomb at a ceremony held on the site at the end of 2022.

“I was so surprised when they called my name“ said Jagger.

“I wasn’t expecting it, I’m looking forward to making new friends, but I am really excited about the new science classrooms because I love science.“

The Doreen campus of Marymede Catholic College is aimed at providing high-quality, Catholic and accessible secondary co-education option for families in Melbourne’s north-east.

“We’re thrilled to see the vision for this new secondary campus come to life. While we will be two campuses, we are still one school. The engaging and contemporary building project is a big part of this vision, but we are also highly committed to bringing our Marymede culture and our vibrant and established curriculum to this new campus community,” Mr Newcomb said.

Deputy principal and head of campus Doreen Julie Plymin has already commenced her new role in 2023 as part of the college’s commitment to realising this vision.

“As we are working away on key components – staffing, policy development, and the planning of Stage 4 of the project, we are also working towards building an engaged school community,” she said.

Ms Plymin, who has a particular interest and experience in building community and partnerships between school, students and families, added “Effective learning requires a positive educational environment. For learning to take place, everyone must feel safe, respected, supported, curious and joyful”.

To meet Timothy and Julie, and to hear more about the new Doreen campus, head to the open day at Marymede’s South Morang campus, this Sunday, March 19, 11am to 2pm. For more information, visit marymede.edu.vic.au.
