The McEwen electorate is set to receive a $4.7 million support fund from the Albanese Government to be put toward local priorities.
The funding is part of phase four of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI).
Whittlesea has been allocated funding of $1.4 million for McEwen, which McEwen MP Rob Mitchell says is a big win for the local community.
“We know what a difference good local roads and facilities can make to our communities,” he said.
“I look forward to working with the City of Whittlesea to get on with the work of delivering the infrastructure our community needs and deserves.”
The LRCI program supports councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects in their region, creating jobs and long-lasting benefits for communities.
Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King says that this funding will prioritise road upgrades in regional, rural and outer urban areas.
“The Albanese Government is committed to standing side-by-side with councils to support them in their crucial role of delivering for communities,” she said.
“We know this is a vital concern for many councils across the country – particularly following events like floods and natural disasters.”
Councils across Australia will be able to spend this funding on priority local road and community infrastructure projects.
Phase four funding allocations can be accessed by councils from July, with projects to be delivered by June 2025.
