Motorists are being warned of road closures in Craigieburn throughout January and February as part of the Craigieburn Road upgrade.

Closures will be in place along parts of Craigieburn Road, Aitken Boulevard and Bridgewater Road, allowing crews to complete a seven week upgrade blitz.

Works will commence as of Tuesday, January 10 at 8pm, and motorists are being warned of the traffic changes ahead.

The following roads will be closed:

Craigieburn Road in both directions between the Hume Highway and Hanson Road until 10pm on Tuesday, February 28.

Aitken Boulevard in both directions between Craigieburn Road and Elevation Boulevard until 10pm on Tuesday, February 28.

Bridgewater Road in both directions between Craigieburn Road and Clovelly Drive until 10pm on Wednesday, January 25.

A spokesperson from the Department of Transport said motorists are urged to allow up to 25 minutes extra during peak times when using detours on the Hume Highway, Mickleham Road, and either Somerton Road to the south or Mt Ridley Road to the north.

Local detours will be in place via Kingswood Drive, Hanson Road, Newbold Avenue, Carlisle Street, Hothlyn Drive, Fairways Boulevard, Elevation Boulevard and Waterview Boulevard, with delays of 5-15 minutes expected.

Access to Craigieburn Plaza will remain available from Hanson Road and Hamilton Street, while access for residents and businesses along Craigieburn Road will be maintained via a one-way lane of traffic on the south side of the road.

During the closures, crews will complete full-depth asphalting, plus kerb, traffic island, drainage, traffic signal, lighting and barrier works.

The Craigieburn Road upgrade, which includes additional traffic lanes, intersection upgrades and safety improvements between Hume Highway and Mickleham Road, is expected to be fully completed in 2025.
