Hundreds of searches made in Broadmeadows

Thirteen people were arrested and close to 350 searched during a police operation in Broadmeadows last week.

The operation ran from Tuesday, September 27 to Friday, September 30, with uniformed officers, the dog squad, the mounted branch, transit police and protective services officers patrolling high traffic areas such as shopping centres, bus stops and the train station.

As part of the operation, police declared Broadmeadows train statin as a designated area, enabling officers to conduct weapons searches.

Police said 13 people were charged with offences such as possessing controlled weapons, theft and drug possession.

Police said that 27 infringement notices were issued for traffic offences.

Police said 348 people, 40 vehicles and 38 premises were checked during the operation.

Broadmeadows acting sergeant Nicholas Howley said the operation is one of many police will be running and was the result of feedback from the Neighbourhood Policing survey.

“Local police will continue to be regularly supported by specialist units including the

mounted branch and dog squad to both reassure the community and disrupt crime,” Sergeant Howley said.
