The Barry Road Bridge rail crossing in Broadmeadows has reopened to motorists, with essential repairs and major upgrades complete.
Minor works will continue into September, with lane closures incurred until Sunday, November 11 to finish the installation of safety barriers and line marking.
Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan said: “We thank the community for its patience while crews completed this vital upgrade at Barry’s Road Bridge – improving safety and reliability on one of the busiest east-west road corridors”.
More than 25,000 vehicles use Barry Road daily, with 2000 of those classified heavy.
Construction catered for heavier loads to cross the bridge, now allowing for a maximum load capacity for trucks in excess of 85.5 tonnes to future proof the construction.
