Hume Anglican Grammar’s sport centre will be transformed into the African savannah for the school’s production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr.
The school’s primary pupils will be taking to the stage over six nights to tell the story of Simba as he journeys from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again.
Hume Anglican Grammar performing arts director Haylee Sommer said 1200 pupils will take part in the musical over the six nights.
Pupils from the Mt Ridley campus will perform over the first three nights, with pupils from the Donnybrook and Kalkallo campuses taking to the stage on the last three nights.
Ms Sommer said the Mt Ridley campus choir will perform on all six nights.
She said the musical’s songs were one of the reasons she chose it for this year’s production.
“I’ve had it in mind for the students because of the beautiful songs,” Ms Sommer said.
“We have a very strong choir here at Hume. The choir will remain on stage of the entire show.”
Ms Sommer said the pupils were thrilled to be performing The Lion King Jr.
“They all knew it. It’s one of those stories that’s a classic,” she said.
“Our school bell currently is excerpts from The Lion King. At the moment, it is ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King’ and [the pupils] all break out in song in the primary school.”
Hume Anglican Grammar will present Disney’s The Lion King Jr from August 22-31.
