Police have intercepted 45 motorists breaking the law in Hume and 18 in Whittlesea during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
Officers targeted high-risk driving behaviour across the state over four days from Friday, June 10 to Monday, June 13, as part of Operation Regal.
In Hume , 21 drivers were caught speeding while nine came to the attention of police for disobeying signs or signals.
Police also caught four unlicensed and three disqualified drivers.
Four people were fined for mobile phone offences while police also uncovered two unregistered vehicles and impounded two vehicles.
In Whittlesea, police nabbed six speeding drivers.
Five people were found to be driving while their licence was disqualified and one drink driver was caught.
Four people were fined for disobeying signs or signals and one person was fined for mobile phone offences.
Police uncovered one unregistered vehicle.
Road policing assistant commissioner Glenn Weir said it was “completely unacceptable” that “so many motorists” were continuing to take risks on the roads.
“We continue to detect a high number of speeding and unauthorised drivers – these are people that are making a conscious decision to blatantly disregard the road rules,” Mr Weir said.
Police say they will remain highly visible on roads across the state as the Victorian school holiday period begins next week.
“Police will continue to target and enforce against those who engage in risky driving behaviour, and we make no apologies for this. One bad decision is all it takes to cause a tragedy,” Mr Weir said.
