Construction underway at new Donnybrook primary school

Construction is underway on the new Hayes Hill Primary School (interim name) in Donnybrook with premier Daniel Andrews and Yan Yean MP Danielle Green visiting the site on Thursday, June 2.

The school is set to open its doors for the first day of Term 1 2023, and will have space for 525 local students in the northern suburb, and will be accepting enrolments for students in prep to grade six.

It will feature specialist teaching areas for science and food technology, two learning neighbourhood buildings, a community hub building with a competition-grade gymnasium, canteen, music and drama space, two outdoor hard-courts, a sports field and an administration building.

The new school shared in a state government investment of $491.5 million in the 2021/22 Victorian Budget for new schools construction.

This will be one of the 75 new schools opening between 2019 and 2024 as part of the Labor government’s 100 new schools initiative by 2026.

Premier Daniel Andrews said it was imperative to build new schools to help support the growth in outer suburbs.

“Our northern suburbs are growing fast – and we’re keeping pace with the new communities in this area by building new schools to make sure every family has access to quality public education, close to home,” Mr Andrews said.

Yan Yean MP Danielle Green said she was looking forward to the completion of the new school.

“I know local families are excited about this brand-new school opening to support this growing community – I can’t wait to see it completed and open.”

The community will be able to help choose the new school’s name, before the Victorian government will make the final decision before Term 3, 2022.
