Jets snare important win

Greenvale got a much needed win in Essendon District Football League premier division on Saturday.

The Jets, who had won just two matches heading into the match with Avondale Heights, set the win up in the first quarter.

Eight goals to two in the first quarter gave the Jets a 39-point lead at the first break.

The two sides went goal for goal in the second quarter and third quarters as the margin remained steady the next two quarters.

The Heights made one last run in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough, with the Jets winning 15.4 (94)-12.5 (77).

Jacob Thompson kicked seven goals in a best on ground performance.

The Jets now sit seventh on the ladder.

This week they face ladder leaders Keilor on Saturday.

Craigieburn got its second win of the division 1 season, beating Moonee Valley.

The Eagles took control of the game in the second half after leading by six points at the main break.

The Eagles kicked five goals in the third quarter to lead by 32 points at three quarter time. They increased the lead in the last, to win 13.10 (88)-6.9 (45).

Sam Rexhepi kicked four goals in the win to take his season total to 28.

Tullamarine managed to hold off Westmeadows in a thriller.

The Demons led at every break and including by 21 points at the final change. The Tigers, who have been a fast finishing team, kicked 4.4 in the last quarter to get themselves back into the game.

It wouldn’t be enough with the Demons winning, 14.10 (94)-12.16 (88).

Matt O’Dwyer was the star for the Demons with five goals in a best on ground performance.

Jayden Ranno was named the Tigers best.

Roxburgh Park moved back into the top four with a hard fought win against the Sunbury Kangaroos.

The Kangaroos started the better of the two sides before the Magpies hit the front in the second quarter.

Once in the lead the Magpies stayed there, winning 8.13 (61)-5.10 (40).

Travis Cooke was named the Magpies best.

In division 2, Jacana produced its highest score since coming back into the competition.

While the scoreboard will show a 32.14 (206)-6.5 (41), the result shows the development within the squad

Adam Gough kicked three goals for the Jaguars.
