Labor has retained their seats in Melbourne’s north in the federal electorates of Calwell and Scullin.
In Calwell, Labor MP Maria Vamvakinou has managed to hold onto the seat, preparing to serve her eighth term.
With 66.7 per cent of votes already counted, Ms Vamvakinou leads by 15,777 votes.
She has received just over 30,000 votes (44.9 per cent) so far.
The Liberal party has managed a 7.5 per cent in their favour but candidate, Tim Staker-Gunn still trails behind.
In a Facebook post, Sunday, May 22, Ms Vamvakinou thanked the electorate for her victory.
“Thank you to the people of Calwell for their support. A Federal Labor government will serve the interest of my wonderful constituency. Onwards and upwards,” she wrote.
Member for Scullin, Andrew Giles has also been re-elected in what is a very safe Labor seat with 66.9 per cent of votes already counted.
Mr Giles currently leads by 16,219 votes and holds 46.2 per cent of first preference votes.
Liberal candidate Virosh Perera has secured 14,835 votes thus far (21.6 per cent).
However, Labor did suffer a 5.8 per cent swing to the Liberals but Mr Giles has managed to secure another term.
He took to Facebook to thank his supporters for this “great privilege.”
“My thanks go to the people of the Scullin electorate, for again placing their trust in me – I won’t let you down,” he wrote.
“I’ll do my best to work for and support the needs of every constituent, including those who didn’t vote for me.”
The seat has had only four members in the six decades since its inception, all representing the Labor party.
