Whittlesea United through to the next round of Australia Cup

Whittlesea United is through to the seventh and final Victorian stage of the knockout Australia Cup.

United, an FV state league 1 north-west side, faced state league 2 north-west side Upfield on Wednesday night.

Whittlesea had a comprehensive win, winning 4-0.

Mangor Dhoul scored twice in the win, while Jama Mohammed Boss and Burak Kocak both found the back of the net.

Hume City was already knocked out last week by the Oakleigh Cannons.

United is one of two state league teams left in the competition.

Five teams from the Victorian stage of the competition go through to the national stage, along with the three Melbourne A-League sides.

In other results, Melbourne Knights beat Collingwood City in the battle between a National Premier League side in the Knights and a state league 2 team in Collingwood.

The Knights scored early in their match, through Anthony Frangie in the 17th minute.

It would be the only goal in the 1-0 and enough to seal the Knights spot in the next round.

St Albans’ cup run ended on Wednesday night against the Bentleigh Greens.

The Greens scored twice in the first half, before putting the icing on the cake in the second half to win 3-0.

The Knights join Green Gully and state league 1 side Brimbank Stallions through to the next round.

In the first week of round six matches, Green Gully beat Doverton, 4-0. Mamadi Kamara scored twice in the win.

The Stallions stunned NPL 2 side Moreland City, winning 3-0. Luis Covarrubias, Daniel Sweeney and Thomas Harris scored in the upset win.

The other teams through to the seventh round are Avondale, Heidelberg United, Goulburn Valley Suns and the Dandenong Thunder.
