A 37-year-old Broadmeadows man is one of two arrested by police after a firearm was recovered in Reservoir this morning (May 6).
Officers were patrolling Spring Street, Reservoir, when they noticed a silver Holden sedan with alleged false plates about 1.30am.
The car sped off from police before it was located on Gilbert Road a short time later.
It is alleged the passenger got out of the car and disposed of an item before being arrested by police.
A search conducted by police located a rifle.
The driver was also arrested by police after the car was abandoned in Jelf Court, Fawkner.
He has been charged with possessing a firearm, dangerous driving and other associated driving matters.
An application will be made for him to be remanded into custody and he will appear at Heidelberg Magistrates Court later today.
A 27-year-old Long Gully man has been released, pending further inquiries.
