Tullamarine has stamped itself as premiership favourites in the Essendon District Football League women’s division 2 competition.
After an interrupted first month to the season, which included just one game, the Demons took on an undefeated Airport West on Saturday afternoon.
The Demons started the better of the two teams and led by 20 points at half time.
While the Eagles did most of the attacking on the scoreboard in the second half, they weren’t able to fully convert.
The Eagles kicked 1.6 in the second half, while keeping the Demons goalless. The Demons were able to hold on, winning 5.6 (36)-3.7 (25).
Courtney Annett, who kicked two goals for the Demons, was named best on ground.
The win means the Demons are the only undefeated team in division 2.
In other matches, Westmeadows 2 had a big win against Maribyrnong Park 2, 5.5 (35)-1.2 (8), while the Sunbury Kangaroos won on forfeit against Oak Park 2.
In the premier division, Hillside caused the biggest upset of the round, beating top side Oak Park.
Having struggled so far this season, the Sharks went into the match as underdogs.
It meant little as they led at every change in the 4.4 (28)-3.2 (20) win.
Lisa Parisi continued her good form and was named best on ground.
Westmeadows is the only undefeated team in the top division after beating Burnside Heights.
The Tigers dominated the game and could have easily won by much more if they had kicked straight.
The Tigers winning 7.14 (56)-3.7 (25).
Danielle Linton, Brooke Byron and Taylah Manson kicked two goals each. Courtney Bligh was named best on ground for a second successive week.
Brodie Stevens was the best for the Bears.
Keilor had a big win against arch rival Aberfeldie under lights at Clifton Park. The Blues did a lot of the damage early, keeping Abers scoreless in the first half.
They continued that momentum in the second half, winning, 8.9 (57)-2.2 (14).
Olivia Manfre kicked six goals for the Blues.
In the other game, Moonee Valley beat Maribyrnong Park, 3.3 (21)-2.8 (20).
In division 2, Greenvale won the top of the table clash against Gisborne, 7.5 (47)-3.6 (24).
Strathmore, Pascoe Vale and the Sunbury Kangaroos were the other winners.
It was a big week in the men’s competition as well.
East Keilor and Aberfeldie made big statements against other finals contenders.
The Cougars had their first big scalp, beating Strathmore, 10.9 (69)-8.8 (56). Aberfeldie proved far too strong for Keilor, winning 16.12 (108)-8.8 (56).
Pascoe Vale, Maribyrnong Park and Essendon Doutta Stars were the other winners.
Craigieburn opened its account against the Sunbury Kangaroos in division 1, while Tullamarine won a thriller against West Coburg.
Roxburgh Park held strong against Westmeadows, Rupertswood made it three in a row against Hillside and Airport West beat Moonee Valley.
In division 2, Burnside Heights, Hadfield, Oak Park and Keilor Park had wins.
