Coolaroo South Primary School had their first on site event in two years to celebrate Harmony Day.
The festivities commenced at 2:30pm with student performances, succulent planting, face painting and a churro stand.
Principal Anne-Maree Grozdanoski called it a day for reconnecting with the community and families came along for the celebration.
“I would say 75 per cent of families came to the event and we had parents who even turned up in cultural dress,” she said.
The two hour long afternoon was an opportunity for the school and new families to meet face-to-face whilst embracing each other’s cultural differences.
“We actually had a family that’s just settled into Melbourne from Afghanistan who came and it was lovely to see them and connect with them.”
The school prides themselves on their inclusivity and the diversity of their pupils.
“Our community predominantly comprises families from Turkish, Arabic, Assyrian speaking backgrounds and more.
“We hear our community and we absolutely recognise that the diversity in our community is something to be celebrated, we have about 16 or 17 different nationalities at the school,” Ms Grozdanoski said.
Harmony Day forms part of Cultural Diversity Week, a state government initiative that looks to celebrate people from all backgrounds.
