Former AFL players Jason and Cameron Cloke will play for Craigieburn in division 1 of the Essendon District Football League next season.

Jason has spent the past four years playing with Spotswood in the Western Region Football League and was part of the team which won the 2011 division 1 premiership.

Younger brother Cameron has been with Bundoora in the Northern Football League over the same period.

He was part of two division 1 premiership-winning sides with the Bulls and won the 2013 Frank Rosbrook Trophy as the league’s best player.

Eagles president Brian Hall said the announcement had already created excitement at the club.

“We identified that to improve as a team we needed key forwards up forward and we worked hard to get these players to fill this gap,” he said.

“There’s the incentive for Cameron and Jason to play together again.

“But I think they saw the direction the club is going in, from being a struggling club to a strong club again.”

Hall said the signings would also benefit the younger players.

Craigieburn club survived relegation to division 2 only by percentage in 2014, finishing just 4.5 per cent ahead of Hadfield.

“We started to come together as a team in the last half of the year,” Hall said.

“We found we needed a couple of targets to add to that.

“We have a young side and they’ll be the future of our club, so having experienced players will help the players develop.”

The Eagles will start their preseason on November 17.
