Hume City believes it’s not far from breaking through for its first win of the National Premier League season.
One of the top sides in the last few years, Hume is without a win after its first three matches and sitting down towards the bottom of the table.
While it has come away with two points via two draws so far, coach Nick Hegarty knows the start hasn’t been ideal.
“Obviously it’s not the results that we want,” he said. “At the same time we’re not far from getting results.
“We’re a couple of tweaks and changes away that will put us in a different position. We’re back on the track and working on some things.”
Hegarty said they had been in all three games, but as with football it comes down to whether you can make the most of their opportunities.
“We have to make sure we’re better than the opposition in both boxes,” he said. “We’ve certainly had enough chances to win games.
“Every result that doesn’t go your way, the next game is even more important. It means you can’t be free and relax on the pitch.
“Once we get that first win, things will kick into gear.”
Hegarty said the squad this year is a young one and will take some time to click. He said at times the lack of experience was showing through.
“They’ve been playing OK. Getting experience they need and they’ve had some good moments and some bad moments, it’s about learning from those bad moments.”
“What we lack in experience, they have in exuberance and optimism. I’m excited to see the performance from them on Saturday.”
The task doesn’t get any easier this weekend, with Hume facing Avondale on Saturday night.
It’s a rematch of last season’s Dockerty Cup, which Avondale won.
“They are the team to beat in the league,” Hegarty said.
“It will be two teams looking to get a grip on the game early.
“It’s a different preparation for them [coming off a loss]. We’ll see how they respond.”
