Fire Rescue Victoria responded to the incident just after 5am after a triple-0 call reported smoke coming from a paddock area.
“Approximately 20 firefighters arrived at the scene within six minutes to find a large grassfire spreading rapidly,” an FRV spokesperson said.
Country Fire Authority and FRV firefighters contained the fire’s edge and brought it under control within five minutes.
“The incident has been handed over to Victoria Police,” the FRV spokesperson said.
