Gilgai Plains Primary School officially opens

Kalkallo pupils have a new school to call their own, following the opening of Gilgai Plains Primary School last week.

The school was officially opened on February 2 by Education Minister James Merlino and Yuroke MP Ros Spence.

It includes a library, food and science learning spaces, a performing arts and physical education building, two learning neighbourhoods, two outdoor hardcourts, a sports field, a bike shed, landscaped play spaces and a playground.

Principal Anthea James said: “We pride ourselves on providing students with a learning environment that makes them feel safe, happy, connected and achieving.

“Our vision for the school is centred on focusing towards continuous improvement and excellence for all students in an environment that is nurturing, positive and inclusive.”

Mr Merlino said families will also have access to kindergarten and maternal child health services, with Kalkallo Community Centre situated nearby on Toyon Road, and Kalkallo Interim Preschool and Maternal and Child Health facility adjacent to the new primary school.

“This beautiful new school will be a fantastic place for hundreds of students to start their school years – and I can’t wait to see their ongoing success,” he said.

The school is in Stockland’s Cloverton estate and Stockland project director James Westh said it is a welcome addition to Cloverton.
