Funding boost for growing Hume

A new community centre will be built in Westmeadows and Progress Reserve in Coolaroo will be upgraded as part of a $2.7 million funding injection for Hume.

As part of the state government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, Hume council will receive $1 million towards the Valley Park Community Centre in Westmeadows.

The community centre will support local service and program delivery, including maternal and child health and playgroups, the council said.

Progress Reserve in Coolaroo will receive $650,000 towards stage one of its redevelopment. This stage is the first of three and will deliver new playspaces, a ‘nature play’ area, toilets, a covered picnic and barbecue area, as well as a connected and landscaped path network.

Other projects include an upgrade to the Westmeadows Shopping Precinct ($189,750), an upgrade to Sunbury Park ($250,000), the creation of a ninja obstacle course and park upgrades at Forrest Street Playspace in Sunbury ($260,000) and an upgrade to Village Green Playscape in Sunbury ($256,000)

Mayor Carly Moore said the Growing Suburbs Fund was vital to delivering community infrastructure for a city that is growing as quickly as Hume.

“An announcement that more than $2.7 million will be delivered for important projects across Hume is very welcomed news,” she said.

“It is a great example of what can be achieved for our community when all levels of government work in partnership to deliver a shared outcome.”
