Two charged after impersonating police and carjacking

Two men have been charged by the North West Region Crime Squad following an alleged crime spree that included them impersonating police and carjacking two vehicles.

A man told Victoria Police he was driving his black car in East Melbourne on December 17 when a vehicle behind him turned on its high beam lights and blue and red lights similar to a police car.

The man alleges he then pulled over thinking it was a police vehicle and was assaulted by two people who stole the vehicle. The man was taken to hospital following the incident to be treated for a fractured eye socket and a broken nose.

Nine days later, police have been told that a man driving a blue car on Forest Red Gum Road in Mickleham was also tailed by a vehicle with flashing red and blue lights.

In similar circumstances to the first carjacking, it is alleged that two people asked the driver to exit the vehicle and then stole it.

A 29-year-old Aspendale man was located inside the stolen car and was arrested on six charges including aggravated carjacking. He has since been remanded in custody and will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on April 4.

A second 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with five offences. He will re-appear at court on April 4 after he was bailed on January 19.

If anyone has information about crime, including a person impersonating a police officer you can also contact Crime Stoppers.
