Northern Health occupation therapist recognised

A Northern Health occupational therapist has been recognised as the Indigenous Allied Health Professional of the Year at the annual National Indigenous Allied Health Awards.

The awards recognise current and future leaders who have had significant impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families, and communities.

Tya Fry was awarded Allied Health Professional of the Year earlier this month, which recognises a commitment, dedication and contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Ms Fry said she was honoured to receive the award.

She said having been a member of IAHA for a few years, she was able to watch and learn from fellow allied health professionals.

“There are some truly amazing people in allied health completing fantastic work and I am so grateful to now stand beside so many of them,” she said.

“I hope this encourages many young Aboriginal people to consider careers in allied health.”

Senior Aboriginal liaison officer Karen Bryant said Ms Fry strived to influence change and improve culturally responsive action in service delivery.

Allied health director Jim Sayer said: “I am truly delighted to see Tya recognised for the outstanding leader that she is.”
