Whittlesea council have advised the community about prescribed burns to be carried out in conservation areas ahead of the fire danger period.
According to Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), a fire danger period is when fire services restrict the use of fire in the community, in order to help prevent fires from starting and keep the community safe.
In a post to the City of Whittlesea Facebook page, the council said residents should not be alarmed if they see smoke in the area.
The council outlined key initiatives being undertaken to prepare for the fire danger period in the post.
“As part of our fire season preparations, we will begin our planned burning program from [Tuesday, November 30],” the post said.
“We will be conducting controlled burning at Mill Park Recreation Reserve in Mill Park.
“We will be working with wildlife carers to reduce the potential risk to kangaroos.”
The council said the 2021-22 fire season was expected to be “above normal conditions”.
Residents can visit the council website to view the council’s interactive map for more details on planned burns in their area, as well as other tasks being carried out by the council in preparation for the fire season.
