Whittlesea residents can soon enjoy the hotly anticipated streetscape upgrade at Lalor Shopping Centre, with construction on May Road almost complete.
Visitors to the precinct can already enjoy the centre’s new look, with recent improvements to Station and David Streets.
The upgrades to David Street, completed earlier this year, included the installation of a new public toilet, an update to the roundabout with Station Street, a new vehicle turning circle at the David Street end of May Road, and the creation of a social space, with new seating and paving.
Whittlesea chair administrator Lydia Wilson said it was “lovely” to see the upgrades re-energising the precinct.
“Council’s investment into this popular shopping centre has transformed the area into a vibrant community hub, helping our hard-working local businesses to thrive,” she said.
“We look forward to completing the May Road upgrade in the next few weeks and seeing residents enjoy the improvements for many years to come.”
The May Road works will provide clear and safe access for shoppers between Lalor Library and Peter Lalor Walk.
New seats and social spaces are already installed, with new paving and raised vehicle platforms expected to be completed by the end of the month.
