A woman has died after a two vehicle collision in Wollert this afternoon.

Police said emergency services were called to Epping Road just after 1pm after a truck and a car collided.

The female driver of the car, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Epping Road is closed in both directions between Craigieburn Road East and Bridge Inn Road following the collision.

The Department of Transport has advised that motorists should avoid the area.

The Hume Freeway and Donnybrook Road, or McDonalds Road, Plenty Road and Bridge Inn Road should be used instead, the department said.

Buses on route 390 are diverting around the closure, and some services may be delayed.

According to the department the road will reopen once police investigations are complete and it is safe to do so.

The department said the signals team is monitoring conditions and will adjust traffic lights as needed, in order to minimise congestion.

Real-time traffic conditions are available online or via the VicTraffic mobile app.

Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined.
