Bundoora had a strong opening to the Bowls Victoria pennant premier division season on Saturday.
Bundoora dominated Mentone, taking the win 100 (18)-47 (0).
The side claimed the win in all four rinks by a large margin.
Gary Kelly skipped his rink to the most dominant win, winning 29-7.
Josh Corless, Corey Wedlock and Dean O’Neill put in strong performances, skipping their rinks to wins 26-11, 23-16 and 22-13 respectively.
Wedlock, who is in the Australian contracted squad, is travelling from New South Wales each week to play.
Bundoora will come up against Croydon in round two.
In the division 2, section 1 competition, Whittlesea claimed a win, beating Bacchus Marsh 70 (16)-65 (2).
Whittlesea took three out of four rinks, with skips Guy Spiden, Benjamin Winther and Nicholas McIntyre leading their rinks to victory.
Robert Millar’s rink lost 25-12.
Whittlesea will face Sunbury this weekend.
In the division 1, section 2 competition, Whittlesea’s second side did not get a chance to play, with the greens closed due to being washed out.
They shared the points with Mitcham and will play Diamond Creek this weekend.
Bundoora’s second side were unable to claim a victory, losing to Yarra Glen 82 (15)-74 (3).
Bundoora claimed one rink victory, with Doug Woods skipping to victory 22-19.
Yarra Glen claimed two rinks, and the sides had a draw 19-19 in the last rink.
Bundoora will come up against Ivanhoe this weekend.
A washed out game meant Broadmeadows were unable to compete against Moonee Ponds in the division 2 section 2 competition.
They will face Melton’s second side this weekend.
Craigieburn fared better, taking the win over Keilor 72 (14)-64 (4).
The two teams split the rinks.
Craigieburn skipper Lawrence Brooks led the side to a 19-13 win, while Maxwell Smith skipped the team to the second rink win 25-12.
Craigieburn and Strathmore will compete this weekend.
Lalor and Bundoora’s third side’s match in division 2, section 3 didn’t go ahead due to the weather.
Lalor will face Hurstbridge on Saturday.
