Whittlesea Community Awards recognise ‘wonderful people’

The first ever City of Whittlesea Community Awards has recognised residents who went above and beyond for their local community.

The inaugural awards were presented in an online ceremony last week, recognising six residents for their efforts.

Award categories included citizen of the year, senior citizen of the year, access and inclusion citizen of the year, sustainable environment citizen of the year, and young citizen of the year

Council administrator and community awards committee member Peita Duncan said she praised the efforts of those who were celebrated in the ceremony.

“It’s wonderful to see so many people in our community giving up their time to help others,” she said.

“This level of community spirit is inspiring. We were pleased to recognise a small group of these wonderful people in our first community awards program.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Awards Committee who volunteered their time to help direct the organisation of the awards and judge the nominations.

“We hope this encourages others to appreciate the community spirit that is present in the City of Whittlesea.”

Award recipients were:

– Daman Shrivastav, Citizen of the Year

– Shoukry Sidrak, Senior Citizen of the Year

– Lynne Harris, Access and Inclusion Citizen of the Year

– Hansikaa Sharma, Sustainable Environment Citizen of the Year

– Rudra Sekhri, Young Citizen of the Year
