New caravan manufacturer workers in Melbourne’s north will benefit from specialist on-the-job training as Victorians look for the vacation vehicles post-lockdown.
The state government is backing local jobs as well as Victorians hitting the roads once again as COVID-19 travel restrictions ease statewide, providing support to help manufacturers meet demand.
One hundred and fifty staff from companies in the north, including at Crusader Caravans in Epping, will receive specialist on-the-job training thanks to a partnership between the Victorian government, NORTH Link, and Caravan Industry Victoria.
The workers will receive support and skill development in areas including assembly, service and repairs, warehousing and logistics, administration, and sales.
This ‘earn and learn’ initiative allows workers to kickstart their new careers while earning an income.
Employment Minister Jaala Pulford said it was an important service to new starters.
“The caravan industry is booming and this provides a great opportunity for Victorians to build a career in an industry that is really going places,” Ms Pulford said.
“Being able to earn a wage while learning new skills and building knowledge on the job is a winning combination.”
NORTH Link executive director Chris James said: “It is a win-win – it will supply workers to a growing industry and also help people find a job, while giving them the support they need to adjust to a new career”.
