Porsche impounded after alleged speeding

A Porsche has been impounded after the driver was allegedly caught speeding at almost double the limit in Bundoora yesterday morning.

Police said officers observed the Porsche allegedly travelling at 155 km/h in an 80kmh section of the Ring Road about 9.30am on Sunday, October 31.

Police said they intercepted the vehicle on Northgate Drive in Thomastown and spoke to the driver, a 46-year-old Doncaster man.

His car has been impounded for 28 days and the driver is expected to be charged on summons with speed dangerous and excessive speed.

The impound forms part of Operation Compass, a statewide road policing operation that coincides with Melbourne Cup weekend and the easing of COVID-19 travel restrictions in Victoria.

Police are targeting speed, distraction, fatigue and impaired driving in high-risk areas throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Operation Compass runs until 11.59pm Sunday, November 7.
