Craigieburn Residents Association has today donated $1000 to the Craigieburn Salvation Army.
Due to lockdowns across the state, the charity has not been able to run its annual Red Shield Appeal.
Secretary for the Craigieburn residents association, Dennis Moore, said COVID “made it hard” for them to raise money.
“So we decided to donate $1000 to them, which will help,” he said.
The group, which has been running for over 16 years, usually meets at Selwyn House in Craigieburn, but due to the pandemic, it was forced to move meetings online.
Despite the setback, the group has had at least 10 meetings in the last year, which usually involve discussions with local politicians, police and other protective and community services.
Recently, a local Bunnings was “good enough to donate five $100 gift cards” to the residents association, Mr Moore said.
The group will be donating each gift card to local organisations in need, including Second Chance Animal Rescue and Northern Men’s Shed.
The association met this week to discuss upcoming projects and the return of face-to-face meetings after restrictions ease this weekend.
It is looking to organise a sausage sizzle soon at Merrifield City shopping centre to spread news about the group.
“If anybody in the community have got any sort of issues…they can quite easily ring me or send a message to our website,” Mr Moore said.
“We are fully in touch with all the political people and the councillors. They know who we are and quite openly help us out wherever they can when we lobby anything.”
