Normanby Drive Reserve , Greenvale could be renamed in honour of “devoted” Hume resident, the late Charlie Grech.

Hume council has approved a request from the Greenvale Residents Association and Mr Grech’s family for community consultation to rename the reserve.

Cr Chris Hollow said “this to me is an acknowledgement and a reward for someone who has devoted his life to building a better Hume, that’s what we want out of our residents, someone like Charlie Grech.”

Mr Grech was a resident of Greenvale for almost 50 years and dedicated most of his life to the community, shown through his involvement with the Greenvale Progress Association and the Greenvale Residents Association.

He had many achievements, including serving 43 years on the Rotary Club of Broadmeadows where he was president on three occasions.

More recently, Mr Grech won the Hume City Council Resident of the Month Award in 2020 and this year the Senior Citizen of the Year Award.

“Simply put, a gentleman that has done a lot for the community,” Cr Hollow said.

If approved, the renaming would cost about $2000, with the hopes of an unveiling ceremony once completed.

Community feedback can be submitted via the ‘Participate Hume’ webpage and will be open for 30 days.
