Hume’s crime rate is at its lowest level since 2012, according to Inspector Dean Clinton.

The Crime Statistics Agency recently released crime data for the year ending June 30.

Inspector Clinton said the data revealed that the rate of criminal incidents in Hume (per population) were at the lowest in 10 years, while crime against the person had fallen 2.2 per cent from June 2020.

Crimes against property and burglaries are also at a 10-year low, according to Inspector Clinton.

“Hume is the safest it’s been since Crime Statistics Agency commended recording [crime data] in 2012,” he said.

“Despite these great results, we’re not satisfied, we want to continue to drive down crime and make Hume one of the safest municipalities in Victoria.

“You can help us do that simply by locking your doors, garages sheds, cars, and chaining up your trailers.

“Please also take your valuables out of your cars, secure your tools and report any suspicious behaviour to Crime Stoppers – 1800 333 000.

“So many crimes are opportunistic, let’s say no to thieves in Hume.”
