New plumbing qualifications are now available at Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadows campus, creating more training opportunities for locals.

The two courses – certificate III in plumbing and certificate IV in plumbing and services – will be delivered at the TAFE’s $5.6 million Trades and Skills Centre, which is soon to be completed.

Kangan Institute chief industry engagement and education delivery officer Arron Wood said the new courses would address a strong industry demand for skilled workers in the community.

“The development of the new facility addresses a skills training gap in the north west corridor,” Mr Wood said.

“Offering these additional plumbing courses will allow Kangan Institute students to continue their learning beyond the certificate II course currently offered at Broadmeadows campus.

“This makes it so much easier for our students who can stay with Kangan Institute to complete their studies in full.”

The new Trades and Skills Centre will have capacity to train 300 additional students – mostly apprentices.

The facility was developed with support from the Victorian government’s TAFE Asset Maintenance Fund, and will also feature electrical training laboratories and welding bays.

Enrolments are open for certificate III in plumbing for commencement in late October.

Certificate IV in plumbing and services will launch in 2022.
