Whittlesea residents can learn more about the COVID-19 vaccines and have their questions answered during a free online community session tonight.

Whittlesea council is hosting an information session with Northern Health’s head of infectious diseases Dr Craig Aboltins on Tuesday, September 21, commencing at 6.30pm.

The session follows low vaccination rates in the municipality as revealed by Commonwealth data, which showed 56.2 per cent of city of Whittlesea residents have had their first dose, and 32.1 per cent of residents are fully vaccinated, as of September 12.

Chair administrator Lydia Wilson said the council was committed to supporting its residents in getting vaccinated.

“Increasing vaccination rates in the City of Whittlesea will help us combat the spread of coronavirus in our local community so we want to support our community in any way we can to help them get vaccinated,” Ms Wilson said.

“This session will provide the opportunity for people to have their questions answered by a medical expert so they can make an informed decision about vaccination to protect themselves and their local community.”

The information session will be viewable on YouTube, with a link sent out upon registration.
