Update: One of the two deaths from COVID-19 reported today was a Hume resident.

COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar today announced that the 60-year-old woman was in her second week of infection, and died at home.

A further 53 locally acquired cases of the virus have been connected to the northern suburbs.

Mr Weimar said the main clusters of concern were in Campbellfield, Roxburgh Park and Gladstone Park.

“What we are now challenged with in the days and weeks ahead, is we continue to see very deep clusters of community transmission, particularly in places like Altona North, Broadmeadows and Truganina,” he said.

“What we’re dealing [with] there, is that every workplace, every retail setting, and every community meeting place, has a much higher level of risk because of the level and complexity of the chains of transmission we see in those areas.”
