Yarrambat Park Golf Course dedicated June 17 this year to raising awareness for men’s health, with two free clinics offered as part of Yarrambat Park’s Men’s Health Week program – which was created to shine a spotlight on the health of Nillumbik Shire’s male demographic, 49.4 per cent of the local population.
Course manager Mitchell Walker says that the Yarrambat Park team believes good mental health begins with fresh air and physical activity.
The free clinics were offered as an incentive for members and the local community to get outdoors and into some physical exercise.
“We were excited to bring men’s health to the forefront during Men’s Health Week,” Mitchell says. “We’re passionate about raising awareness on the health of the shire’s men.
“From a local study in 2014, we found that depression and anxiety affect 24 per cent of men in the shire, of which only 12 per cent seek additional support.
“We believe fresh air, exercise and spending time with others in the local community is the key to improving men’s health here in Nillumbik.”
Ken Pickett, one of the participants at the event, was pleased with the program.
“I really enjoyed the golf lesson and would like to be a part of the next one!” he enthused.
Yarrambat Park Golf Course will shine a similar spotlight on women in the shire from July 5 to August 15, when it runs its Winter Women’s Get into Golf program. The six-week tailored women’s clinic, at a cost of $199, includes:
• Free unlimited course access
• Free unlimited driving range access
• Free pair of buggy hand warmers
• Cost-price hardware orders
• Half-price equipment hire
