The death of a man in Caroline Springs on Wednesday night will be investigated by police.
Emergency services were called to a St Georges Avenue address following reports of an assault and a man behaving erratically about 10.20pm.
Police said officers attempted to negotiate with the man, who was armed, before he retreated into the property.
A suspected gunshot was heard a short time later, according to police.
Police entered the property and found a 60-year-old man who was deceased.
A 54-year-old woman who was also at the address at the time was uninjured. The parties were known to each other.
Detectives will investigate the incident with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as per standard practice when a person dies in police presence.
